If you come from an ‘elite’ background, from a familial setting where certain things are Certain and success was already ensured 2 or 3 generations ago, you probably need to do very little to reach further success. You may be wasting your true potential and ignoring your capacity to bring positive change to the world, but if you just make sure you do not make Huge mistakes, all is good. It is called conservatism, and personally, I have nothing against it. In fact, I believe that the true measure of any society’s progress is directly related to the level of the economic, social and intellectual ‘elite’ of that society. A claim that can actually be supported by historical facts.
Nevertheless, we are currently experiencing a time and age of new major players coming to the forefront from humble backgrounds. Millennials who become genius entreprenuers, millionaires multiplied annually by the thousands and billionaires multipled by the hundreds with an even lower age-average, the new Ecosystem of Success consists of previously unsuspected players and all sorts of until-now ‘outsiders’. And again, there is nothing wrong with that as it provides the necessary economic, social and creative fuel to fire further progress! Still, we will need to understand why this is happening if we intend to make the most out of it regardless of our position on the chess board.
In my opinion, it is because the tried and true methods we all knew have been around for too long! That’s right… We are on the 21 century and what has not been tried already is a 1% cut of the collective effort/creation pie. Typically related to new technologies, the internet, artificial intelligence, new methods of transportation, far-space explorations and (don’t forget the) moral debates, the new current is a wave of transformation, challenging the status quo in the most elegant way the world has ever seen! Instead of bloody revolutions, commencement of wars or chess-like layouts comprised of cold-war tactics, the new players challenge the existing moguls by ignoring them! In their mind, the future is so bright that the status quo becomes a shadow…
The biggest mistake the ‘establishment’ could make, is to deem the self-made Tony Starks of this world as hopeless dreamers, who eventually will run out of fuel without a doubt. The only mistake the outsiders can make, is the ability and will of the establishment to adapt instantly, despite its inherent conservatism.
For anyone neutral enough to appreciate, work with and learn from both sides, this is going to be an interesting decade, to begin with.
