Commitment means being dedicated to an extreme degree. In a way, it also means to be restricted. When committed to whatever goal, cause or vision you choose, you just don’t go around spontaneously doing whatever you feel like. Is that a restriction of freedom? Do you feel limited? Some actually experience it as a state of expansion. And they are usually champions…
Surely, a sense of restriction or liberation will largely depend as much on your cause as well as on the inspiration behind it. The greatest efforts, the greatest sacrifices, the greatest contributions, require ONE thing: A vision greater than whatever you are deploying at the expense of that cause.
World – class athletes, celebrated concert musicians, notable innovators, game-changing intellectuals and phenomenal businessmen will agree almost without exception. Perhaps it is so because unlike Talent, Intelligence, or Ability, (all of which are enormously important), Commitment is a ‘sufficient’ condition for success. In other words, a talented, intelligent, able individual may indeed fail for long periods of time. A committed one, even when lacking the qualities mentioned above, usually doesn’t fail for too long.
Therefore, Commitment, when paired with additional qualities like the ones mentioned above, accelerates results, multiplies the probability of success and escalates the given Ecosystem. ‘Focus’, the subject of the previous blog entry, is then just a positive side effect of a powerful stance, affecting everything.
