Hesitation is costing large parts of success to billions of people around the world every day. Many different reasons contribute to this.
Sometimes people hesitate because they are in doubt. The information they got from college or university proves inaccurate or irrelevant, and what they keep hearing from friends and relatives proves old-fashioned or simply wrong in the long-run. Easy things to fix, really, if you want to start fresh: all you need to do is substitute ‘information’ with ‘knowledge’, by practicing methods and techniques, test them in real life, and experiment with different scenarios. Only then you will know what works and what not.
In addition, our influences have to be very wisely chosen. Allowing every single opinion to be heard is desirable and highly democratic. It neither means it has to reach you every time nor that you have to be affected by it, even when expressed out of the best possible motives… parents, friends, colleagues, classmates, mentors, public figures… it would be a mistake to believe that all of them have the right information, although they may sometimes sound like they do.
Another reason causing hesitation is reluctance. You say you want to achieve something, you make some effort, but deep down you don’t want to. Various psychological aspects can contribute to this most unfortunate situation where the person is unconsciously sabotaging him/herself. Changing your methods is a great step forward but it will not be enough. Instead of simply ‘acting’ differently, you will have to BE different. Besides, if our actions define us, then it shouldn’t be too difficult. To accomplish this you have to abandon nervousness and uncertainty. What we discussed above cures those side-effects as well, and it is called Training. Throughout my first 3 books, I discuss this from various angles, in great detail.
Some people think that if they discuss their current predicament with all their friends, keep confessing their shortcomings, and listen to everybody’s feedback, they will find the solution. All they are doing, in reality, is keep talking about a ‘problem’, repeating negative statements, listening to their own excuses, ending up believing it is True. Starting fresh entails the discipline of speaking about your plans, your future, and your perspectives. You will lose a couple of friends who will not find themselves able to play ‘counsels’ anymore, but you will make new ones who will be more interested about where you are going, and totally oblivious about where you came from. Unless if you start talking rubbish again…
Reaching the next level means you can clearly see ‘change’ for the first time and every time afterward. During those moments when the facts of your life get positively transformed, you better control your imagination and focus on those facts. The same way negative bystanders thought the odds were against you based on their ‘facts’, yet your imagination kept making leaps of faith envisioning what was possible, the same way you must now follow their advice and focus on the facts of your success, instead of imagining unnecessary dangers.
